Northern Spy Apple

from $29.00

Size: 4-5 ft
Root Stock: EMLA 7

An heirloom apple dating back to the early 1800’s, the Northern Spy apple tree is extremely winter hardy, known to be used popularly in Michigan, New York, New England, and Pennsylvania because of their ability to last through extreme winters. Northern Spy's produce large, good quality apples that are crisp, juicy, and sweet with a little tartness. These spotted red and green apples are great for pies, sauce, and will add extra sweetness into apple cider.

Northern Spy’s are semi-dwarf, growing up to 15-20 feet tall. Northern Spy’s will produce larger fruit when planted within 500 feet of other apple trees or pollen producing trees, to increase the pollination of the tree. They are well-adaptable to many soil types but do prefer a location with plenty of sunlight, and have been known to grow better in dryer, well-drained soil.

*A mature height of less than 15 feet is recommended for trees planted near power lines. Tall growing trees should be planted a minimum of 20 feet away from power lines, and 50 feet away to avoid future pruning.

*This plant will be packaged as "bare root". Bare root plants have no soil around their roots. Bare root trees, shrubs, and perennials must be planted as soon as possible before growth begins. Find care and planting instructions here:  https://www.arborday.org/trees/planting/bare-root.cfm
