Norway Spruce Seedlings

from $17.00

Size: 9-15”

Norway Spruce (Picea abies)

The Norway Spruce is a fast-growing evergreen that typically reaches 60–90 feet at maturity. It thrives in moist, well-drained clay to loam soils and tolerates partial shade, though it grows best in full sun. Its short, dark green needles and graceful, drooping branches make it both functional and attractive in a variety of settings. Highly valued for landscaping, windbreaks, and wildlife cover.

Requirements:
Light: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Medium to moist, well-drained clay to loam

Key Features

  • Growth Rate: Moderately fast; up to 2 feet per year under good conditions

  • Mature Size: 60–90 feet tall × 25–35 feet wide

  • Low Maintenance: Adaptable once established; excellent cold and wind tolerance

  • Wildlife: Provides year-round cover and nesting habitat for birds and small mammals

Planting Tips
Do not plant under power lines. Space trees 10–12 feet apart for windbreaks or 20 feet apart for individual plantings. Keep soil consistently moist during establishment and mulch to conserve moisture and reduce competition.

*A mature height of less than 15 feet is recommended for trees planted near power lines. Tall growing trees should be planted a minimum of 20 feet away from power lines, and 50 feet away to avoid future pruning.

*This plant will be packaged as "bare root". Bare root plants have no soil around their roots. Bare root trees, shrubs, and perennials must be planted as soon as possible before growth begins. Find care and planting instructions here:  https://www.arborday.org/trees/planting/bare-root.cfm
