Pasture Rose

from $23.00

The Pasture Rose, Rosa carolina, is native to Michigan and known for their beautiful flowers. Their fragrant flowers can be anywhere from white to a deep pink color, blooming from spring to summer. The flowers are edible to humans, and while the base of the petals and flower are usually bitter, the petals themselves can be used in a variety of ways including an addition to fruit punch, syrup, jelly, and other spreads.

The Pasture Rose is attractive to wildlife for a food source, habitat, and for pollination. Some species of animals that the flowers attract are bumblebees, butterflies, and many songbirds. This shrub will grow and flower the best when in a location of full sun. While it can tolerate dry soil and heat it prefers to have moist, well-drained soil. This shrub reaches a height of up to 5 feet with a width of 1 foot . Its leaves are simple and alternating, which turn to a golden yellow and copper during autumn.

*A mature height of less than 15 feet is recommended for trees planted near power lines. Tall growing trees should be planted a minimum of 20 feet away from power lines, and 50 feet away to avoid future pruning.

*This plant will be packaged as "bare root". Bare root plants have no soil around their roots. Bare root trees, shrubs, and perennials must be planted as soon as possible before growth begins. Find care and planting instructions here:  https://www.arborday.org/trees/planting/bare-root.cfm
