Santina Sweet Cherry

from $29.00

Min. Caliper: 3/4"
Root Stock: Mazzard

Santina Sweet Cherry (Prunus avium ‘Santina’)

Early-season self-fertile cherry with sweet dark red fruit that is cold-hardy.
Santina Sweet Cherry is an early-season, high-quality sweet cherry prized for its large, heart-shaped, dark red fruit. The cherries are exceptionally sweet with low acidity, perfect for fresh eating, baking, canning, and preserves. One of the earliest cherries to ripen, Santina offers a long harvest period from late spring through early summer. Its semi-upright, moderately vigorous growth habit makes it suitable for small orchards or backyard planting, while its cold-hardiness ensures reliable fruit production in cooler climates. Yields better fruit when paired with another cherry tree, like the Montmorency Cherry (for sale this year too!)

Requirements:
Light: Full sun (6+ hours daily)
Soil: Well-drained, loamy soil with pH 6.0–7.0

Key Features:

  • Mature Size: 15–20 feet tall × 10–12 feet wide

  • Harvest Period: Early season

  • Wildlife Value: Provides fruit for humans; spring blossoms attract pollinators

  • Pollination: Self-fertile, though yields may improve with a compatible cherry variety such as Bing, Rainier, or Van

Plant Care:
Santina Cherry thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Water regularly during establishment and fruiting; drought-tolerant once mature. Prune in late winter to maintain shape, improve airflow, and encourage fruiting. Naturally resistant to cracking, monitor for common cherry pests and apply organic sprays as needed. Its early ripening, exceptional sweetness, and reliable productivity make Santina Cherry an excellent choice for home orchards and edible landscapes.
