White Pine Seedlings

from $17.00

Size: 8-14”

White Pine (Pinus strobus)

The Eastern White Pine is a graceful, fast-growing evergreen and Michigan’s state tree. Its soft, bluish-green needles and tall, airy form make it an excellent choice for windbreaks, or naturalized plantings. This tree offers year-round beauty and valuable habitat for birds and wildlife.

Requirements:
Light: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Acidic, moist, well-drained and dry soils

Key Features

  • Growth Rate: Moderate to fast, especially in early years

  • Mature Size: 50–80 feet tall × 20–40 feet wide

  • Wildlife Value: Provides excellent cover; seeds feed birds and small mammals

  • Low Maintenance: Generally easy to grow in the right site; best in cool, humid climates

Plant Care:
Choose a location with plenty of room to grow, this tree gets big! Do not plant under power lines. Avoid heavy clay or alkaline soils. Water regularly during establishment. For best long-term health, do not plant near species of Ribes (currants and gooseberries) in areas where white pine blister rust is a concern. This fungus can kill branches and even trees. *A mature height of less than 15 feet is recommended for trees planted near power lines. Tall growing trees should be planted a minimum of 20 feet away from power lines, and 50 feet away to avoid future pruning.

*This plant will be packaged as "bare root". Bare root plants have no soil around their roots. Bare root trees, shrubs, and perennials must be planted as soon as possible before growth begins. Find care and planting instructions here:  https://www.arborday.org/trees/planting/bare-root.cfm
